Will a fixed male cat be more likely to get along with another fixed male cat?

I recently adopted a stray cat because he wasn't being taken care of properly and wasn't being fed. Since taking him in I have not been successful at getting him and my resident male cat to become friends.

My resident cat is fixed, the stray cat is not. If I got him fixed would they be more likely to get along? My resident cat I have noticed is a lot calmer. It's the stray cat who starts growling and hissing and meowing super loud when he sees him.

Probably yes.

Neutered male cats tend to be calmer and more agreeable to getting along with other cats. Introductions are also important and need to be done slowly. Getting him fixed and then sequestering him while he recovers will allow you to start the introduction process over again. That by itself may help them to acclimate to each other better.
