Why was my cat staring and drooling?

by Jesse

Why was my cat staring at the bedroom door, drooling this morning? She has never done anything like this before. She always wakes up with me when my alarm goes off. She's super sweet and vocal at that time.

This morning, when my alarm went off, she looked startled, and she kept staring at the bedroom door with wide eyes for about 30 minutes. She wouldn't make a sound, and her body language was completely stiff and uncomfortable.

I noticed a drop of saliva on her chin, and even saw a drop fall to the bed. She eventually hid in the closet and stayed there until after noon. She didn't come for breakfast. She ate and seemed normal when she finally came out at lunchtime. She seems normal now at dinner time.

Cat staring and drooling

I would immediately take your cat to the vet. That is not natural behavior. She could have had a stroke or other severe medical problem, especially if she is old or lives in a smoke filled environment.

Cat staring.
by: Rosalyn Brown

I had a cat that would stare at the wall. She never drooled though but the staring was later found out after I took her to my vet, was a thyroid issue. She was put on meds as I couldn`t afford the have the radiology treatment done, and she was fine. A few years later, she passed from stomach cancer and as I have been rescuing cats for 18yrs. When some of them are put on meds, they do develop cancer. Wish there was a more natural way to go that was less expensive. Maybe one day.

It's hard to say. Maybe a small creature got in the house and she was hunting it. Or maybe she has some sort of medical problem. You might want to call your vet.
