Why is my cat trying to swallow my finger?

My cat sucks on my finger until it’s going down his throat. He grabs my finger with his claws and won’t let me pull it away.


Until now, it has just been a gentle suckling and he usually starts while I’m sleeping so by the time I wake up he’s already basically swallowed my finger and I can feel the ridges of his trachea. It’s gross and weird.

Why is he doing this??? Do cats not have gag reflexes?

I have 2 cats that do this and I don't know why.

That sounds like something similar to wool sucking. Cats often do this with objects like blankets and toys. All the cats I've had that have done that have outgrown it at some point. Maybe you could wrap your hands up in a blanket when you sleep so he can't get hold of your fingers.
