Why does my cat make a valve pop sound?

Sometimes when my cat climbs to the top of her tallest cat tree (2 meters), she looks at the ceiling and makes a pop noise, like a valve popping off. It almost sounds like a suppressed dog bark. She does it only once each time she's up there. She never makes the sound anywhere else, even other cat trees.

What does this indicate?

Spitting?
by: Josie

I think I've heard cats make the sound you're talking about, usually when they're exerting themselves and very excited during a play session. I've always attributed that noise to what some people call "spitting." I've only seen very excited cats do that.
