What is this hard growth on cat’s paw pad?

by Carly
(Florida)

I noticed my cat had a hard growth on both back paws. The cat only had mild irritation when I touched them and one looks scab-like. Half was peeling off with healthy skin underneath. The cat lives inside on carpet so I don’t know how it could be a callous. Please Help.

My cat has them too
by: Carrie

It's a cutaneous horn. My cat Foosa, who is polydactyl has them on 3 of his beans on each of his front feet. He has 6 beans on each front foot and 5 beans on each back foot. He was declawed in the front to keep his inside claws from growing around and back inside. Then, he started developing cutaneous horns out of the tips of his little beans.

My cat has the same thing!
by: Anonymous

My cat has the exact same growth on his left front paw. Also indoor cat. It has not peeled off, seems to be intact within the paw pad. Vet said it looked like an injury that was trying to heal. It's not affecting him as far as I can tell, no swelling, irritation, bleeding, no limping, he's not licking it constantly, nothing out of the ordinary. Vet said to "watch it".

A burn?
by: Sally F.

Could it be a burn from jumping onto a hot stove? Only your vet knows for sure.
