Re-adopting my cat

My cat has lived with my friend since last August. When I visit, he usually hides but sometimes he will come out and be friendly: lets me pet him, rolls over for belly rubs, rubs against my legs. My questions are about taking him back. Should I treat him like I’ve just adopted him? Will he remember that he’s lived with me before? How can I make him comfortable?

If he's going back to the same place he lived with you before, I'm sure he'll remember. If not, you can keep him in one room for a couple of days to get used to things. Bring his litter box, food and water bowls, and toys from where he is now to make him comfortable at your place. He knows you. He'll be fine.
