Older cat and one kitten or two?

I have an older cat and I took in a cat who gave birth to kittens. I plan on keeping a kitten and my older cat is hissing at the cats. My main question is should I keep two kittens or keep one and try to socialize it to the older cat? Or get two and socialize them to the older cat?
I’m worried that my kitten is going to get lonely when his family goes off to their new homes. And if the older cat doesn’t get along, I will have to keep them separated for a long time.
What would you suggest?
