My cat Tornato is sick and I think it is her heart?

by Lora
(Sudbury, ON Canada)

My name is Lora Farnham and we (2 for me and 2 for each of my daughters) have kept a litter of kittens (6 - 2 male and 4 female).

They all got left with me apart from Thunder who came back home. At the age of 4, we lost my precious Hurricaine to kidney disease and she was probably just constipated. Back then I was a stupid pet owner and fed them the trash diet.

At the age of 5, we lost our Stormy to a massive heart attack. Tornato is sick. I think it is her heart.

Thunder has had hip dysplasia his whole life and has had kidney failure for about a year. Thunder also has heart issues to be determined. Twister and Blizard are ok.

Tornato has my worries. She is not herself, not eating, seems a bit bloated, shouldn't be constipated. All the cats are on a urinary food and there is stool softener in their water. She will see the vet in the morning, just worried right now.

Tornato is fine, it was a hair ball.
by: It is me Lora Tornato's owner

Tornato is much better it was a hairball and I did go to the vet's office and get more stuff in my pet sick and wellness cupboard. She is 6 and never had a hairball issue before that I have noticed. I am seeing a vet each one as it goes. Their mom was dumped/abandoned with a collar and tags. The location is a place where all the strays go and people leave their cats. She was only about 6 months old. First heat and she turned out to be pregnant. we didn't want a cat we had one. We could not locate her owners through her vet's office. I was told over and over that I had no choice but to keep her.
short version----She had 6 kittens-she was so vicious to our elderly dog and cat before she was worse after-she was segregated in a different room-she tried to kill her babies at about 2 weeks--we took the babies away and only kept them with her long enough to feed--we took her babies away because we heard it through the floor--she screamed and freaked out and clawed herself out a window and was gone at about 4 weeks.
The biggest issue for any pet is the food we feed them and the cheaper foods do not put on the label that feeding this to your cat could potentially kill them because this is not what a cat needs. I have changed the food that they eat and it is expensive and I get it from the vet's office.

Cats with health problems?
by: Elic

You have had a run of bad luck with these cats. Chances are good (or bad) that part of the reason is that they were inbred (mother mated with a sibling or her father) and probably more than one generation to get these many problems.

I would, if I could afford it, take the other cats to the vet when you can to make sure they really are healthy, or if they might not also have some underlying health problems you haven't seen yet.

I hope she's OK.

Unfortunately, only your vet can give you a solid answer on this one. The good news is, you'll be at the vet soon.

Cats often go off food when they're not feeling quite right, so it's impossible to say if it's her heart, and there are various types of heart problems. I hope she's OK.
