How to take care of month old kitten?

by Jessi
(Alma ga)

I have a kitten that is almost a month old. The mommy stopped nursing. He is skinny, mouth is pale, and has fleas. I've washed him. I'm now hand feeding him goat milk and cat food.

I got a rice sock warmed up in the box with him. Is there anything else I should do? I'm afraid to sleep. I don't want him to die.

Editor's note: I'd recommend getting help from experts, and contacting a local veterinarian or rescue organization for guidance.

It may take more than just one bath to get rid of the fleas completely. He also may have other health problems that only a veterinarian can help you with.

WebMD has a guide to newborn kitten care with basic information.

Thank you for helping him.

Small kitten with fleas
by: Lora W.

Thank you so much for caring for the baby kitten. I agree, you need to take the little one to the vet now. They certainly have medicine for fleas that will take care of that problem.
I am not sure about the use of goat's milk. I would consult with the vet on this matter. Pet stores have formulated milk products for just such situation as this. Perhaps your vet has a recommendation.
I hope you are feeding him/her wet food ( canned). The kitty is way too young for dry food. There are canned varieties of wet kitten food.
Please let us know how things are going. Have you named the little one yet ? Take good care of the tiny life entrusted to you.
