How to control feeding of multiple cats?

by Jenn

My boyfriend and I are moving in together soon. He has a cat who is able to do free feeding, whereas I have two cats that have always been a little overweight (adopted them that way as adults) and have to be given scheduled meals, otherwise they just pig out.

We are at a loss of what to do when we finally bring them together. I know his cat may just have to start doing scheduled meals, but my boyfriend really doesn't want to do that and we'd love some input for any other solution?

A microchip and a cat door
by: Kurt (Admin)

There's an IKEA hack for this, using a cabinet as a feeding station and using a SureFlap as a door to allow access to only the right pets. The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door works with your cats' existing microchips, restricting access to only the cats you program into it.

You can see a picture of this feeding station on Pinterest.
