Cat anal gland expression?

My cat has recently been excessively licking her rectum, and sometimes poop would leak out of it and onto my sheets. She's also been really gassy lately and I only recently learned about what an anal gland expression is? Would my cat need one?
I also think that she's only smearing poop on my sheets because she has a surgery collar, and can't really lick herself unless I take it off for a while.
