Bird catching or not

I take my cat outside on about a 40 foot leash. He stalks birds and tries to catch them. Is it OK to allow that, or will he be frustrated if I continue to keep him from catching them?

Chasing birds is what cats do, but I would not let him catch them. It's bad for him and bad for the birds.

Instead, I'd do what Jim suggests, and give him a toy, something like a Kong Kickeroo to pounce on after the walk.

It's good that you don't allow him to catch them. At the end of your walk, give him something he can sink his teeth and claws into, like a plush toy. He'll be fine.
