10 year old female suddenly peeing everywhere but the litter box

My 10-year-old spayed female has been peeing all over the place for the past 10 days. No new food, no new cats, no new furniture, no change of litter or box. No new anything!

I took her to the vet and he did all kinds of tests. Blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays to the tune of $600. He could find nothing wrong with her. I have watched her like a hawk and as soon as I leave the room for 5 minutes she pees somewhere. I am at my wit's end. She is a sweet loving cat who has never done this before.

Thanks Mike. I have found the problem. The vet put her on Clavamox and she started improving right away. She was drinking A LOT of water and had very diluted urine so a UTI didn't show. I figure that she didn't use the box because in her little cat mind, the box was hurting her. And as most women know, drinking a lot of water when you have a bladder infection makes you feel better. She was also peeing in different places in the house. As soon as she started feeling better the box became my friend again. I just had to put it in a new place.

Stress or medical
by: Mike

These things are usually stress or medical. It's possible she has a problem your vet has not yet detected, or she could be under stress. Have you tried confining her to a small room with a litter box and a water dish to see if she uses the box in a confined space? The tighter the space, the harder it becomes for a cat to not use the box. For example, a small cage at a shelter with a litter box is a very tight space.
