It's the domestic cat vs the alligator in a battle of the fiercest. Predatory mammal vs predatory reptile. Who will back down?!
The cat's backup doesn't seem to be worried, but is offering no help. On the other hand, the alligator called for reinforcements! The cat IS Rambo!
"Cats don't bark and act brave when they see something small in fur or feathers, they kill it. Dogs tend to bravado. They're braggarts. In the great evolutionary drama the dog is Sergeant Bilko, the cat is Rambo."
-James Gorman
Update: Here's some insight on possibly why the behavior of these two animals played out the way it did:
Below is another video where "cat battles alligator" over some lunch!
My first thought was, this isn't going to end well for the cat. But it was like a train wreck. I couldn't stop watching.
I live in Florida, and there's an alligator in every pond, or at least, you should assume that's the case. Now and then alligators to get into people's yards.
We've built communities in places we shouldn't have. If your property faces a lake or preserve area with water close by, you might find a gator sunning itself in your back yard. I know someone whose dog was killed by an alligator, and I know how dangerous they can be.
My second thought was, why are these people all standing around, especially since gators can run quite fast? Tourists, ya gotta love 'em.
My third thought was, I think I'd be looking for a way to intervene, which was quickly followed by... I'm an idiot. Who intervenes between a cat and an alligator? You're liable to become either a scratching post, or alligator food!
You might be able to throw some large rocks at the gators to get them to back off, but that's uncertain. It would be hard to safely get a wall between the two animals. The only other thing I can think of to do would be to try to safely bag the cat and get out of there. If either you or the cat made the wrong move, however, the cat could be lunch or you could find yourself caught in a death roll.
Around here, those of us who are cautious grab our animals, go inside, and call for gator removal. Some locals get up close and personal. Some have lived to regret it, others not so much.

Cat vs Alligator by: caren gittleman
I saw this featured on AOL yesterday and to be honest I found it to be extremely upsetting.
Why?
Because the outcome could have easily been totally and devastatingly different and I am saddened that had it turned out differently we would have witnessed it all over the internet.
Who would have videoed this to begin with not knowing what the outcome would be?
We had two female cats that did urine marking over territories in several areas in my house. We cleaned the best we could as we found the spots with Nature's
