Ollie was a shelter cat, and ate like there was no tomorrow. Likely because there wasn't always food tomorrow (he was a stray).
"Normal" food (Royal Canin) was his starting food but 1) he was a constant beggar, and 2) he went from 12 to 16 lbs. in about 6 months. He definitely needed to lose weight, or at least not gain anymore. He is a large critter.
He was put on an automatic feeder so we could walk by the food dish without his leaping underfoot—he still sits and waits for the food god to dispense, but no longer tears across the house as soon as its motor starts up.
His weight has maintained at 15-16 lbs. and all seems well.
