New mom cat with litter box aversion

Since giving birth six weeks ago, my female cat won't use the cat litter box to poo in. Though she will have a wee in there, she decides to poo everywhere else. Why is she doing this?

My thoughts:

I'm sorry to hear that your kitty is having problems. The longer this goes on, the harder it becomes to fix. I would consult a veterinarian as soon as possible because I think it's possible that she has a medical problem with her bowels.

Another possibility is that she is heavily stressed. Giving birth and raising kittens is certainly very stressful, and perhaps she's having coping issues.

A third possibility is that she experienced some pain, perhaps due to constipation, and now associates pain with the litter box.

In addition to having her vet checked, I would do whatever I could to reduce her stress levels and make her life easier. You might also try Cat Attract, as well as produts that help with stress.

I hope that helps and please let us know how she comes along.
