New cat won’t leave the couch?

I adopted a cat on Monday, a 6-year-old girl. She hid in the corner the first day, as expected. But then I started putting her on the couch and snuggling her there which she seems to like.

On the couch, she’s a sweet loving purring baby. But if I try to put her down or take her to another room to explore, she will hide in a corner and hiss at me and sometimes pant. Do we think this will go away with time?

She needs time...

She must have felt safe in her previous home on the couch! The other person who answered is right, cats just need some time to acclimate to new environments. She will be okay soon! I know this because she is so loving towards you when you cuddle her on the couch. Good luck!

Too soon
by: Jim W.

It's too soon to explore. She'll feel safer in a quiet, smaller room. Once she's used to that, she can explore when she's ready.
