My kitten doesn't play fight back and runs away

I have an older cat who is seven years old and just got a new kitten who is 18 weeks old. They get along fine, sleep next to each other, and eat together.

But during play time, my older cat tries to play fight with the kitten. The kitten cries and runs away to hide without fighting back. I know my older cat isn't hurting the kitten because the kitten comes right back out within two minutes. There is no hissing or growling so I know it's play fighting.

Should I be worried? Is my kitten just scared and doesn't like to play fight?

Your kitten is intimidated
by: Sally F.

Your kitten is intimidated by the bigger, older cat. To get the kitten more comfortable with the interaction, I would have supervised play sessions where the focus is on playing with a toy, not each other.
