My cat keeps licking and biting her belly and and legs

by janelle

I just recently adopted my 2-year-old DSH Black cat and upon bringing her home I noticed her legs were balding. After observing her behavior, I saw that she licks and bites at specific areas on her front and back legs as well as her belly.

She's had babies before I adopted her. She's also had all her shots, been dewormed, and been spayed. At first, I assumed it was anxiety from the new environment and stress from me leaving for work, but as the days go by I get more concerned. Asking here before I take an expensive trip to the vet.

Licking

I have had a number of catastrophe with food allergies. Chicken is one of the most common allergies a vet specialist told me. I’ve had two cats allergic to chicken and eggs. Other have been allergic to lamb, salmon and shell fish. I currently have three cats with tomatoes, corn, barley, white potatoes and peas being some of the others. Testing is a simple blood test that your vet does and sends to a lab. It’s expensive but worth it. I learned of the chicken one because my cat at the time was itching so badly she was pulling the fur out of her tail causing it to bleed.

Allergies?

Either food allergies or perhaps flea allergies (or other parasite)? Maybe she was allergic to the flea medication they gave her at the shelter?
