Kitten was timid but now he hides, what should I do?

by Cheyenne

My kitten was timid when we got him but now he hides, what should I do? We got our kitten at 8 weeks and he was timid. He warmed up to us and our other kitten within the first 2 weeks.

Now he is about 12 weeks old and hides from us. He just started hissing and runs away. I don't know what to do.

My other cat and he get along and honestly love each other. He is still close to our other cat but does not like us. It's becoming frustrating and now my husband wants to get rid of him. What should we do before that is our only option?

Slow down a bit
by: Jim W.

I would slow down on making any decisions. He's just a kitten. It will take time for him to get used to how things work.

Hissing is often a fear response. It's not that he doesn't like you, he doesn't trust you for some reason.

If this happened to me, I would think hard on how I can make him feel more comfortable around the people in the house and how we could bond together (playtime, treats, interactive toys). Baby steps will win him over.
