Do cats like to be pet with one hand or two?

by Anonymous

I was rubbing my cat with one hand for awhile. He really enjoys me scratching his chin and was okay with me rubbing the top of his head. I usually rub him on the head rather than the body.

Then I moved on to using two hands. I used both my hands to rub his head (like in a circle shape around his head) and then he hissed and bit me.

Was it over stimulation? Did he feel suffocated by my two hands around his head?

Petting
by: Randy

I have 2 cats. Neither one of them cares if you pet with one hand or 2. The little female likes to be petted hard and rough anywhere. Strange, because she is very timid and afraid of everything.

The big adventurous male is just the opposite. He likes to be touched very lightly on his head, neck and cheeks. You can stroke him harder along his sides.

So, it's up to the cat. Different personalities like different methods.

I have a 8 yr old Tabby female. Shes fine with one hand petting. But two .. no way, she takes off. I think it's intimidating to her, like she won't be able to get away if she needs to. I've learned that in order to love on her, it's her terms, with only one hand.

Maybe he has a sore spot
by: Jim W.

It could be over stimulation. It could be you touched a sore area on his head or neck, or it could be something else.
