Can kittens or cats be allergic to themselves?

My brother claims he took his cat to the vet and they said the cat is allergic to itself. Is that possible?

Maybe the cat has an autoimmune disorder.

An allergy is the body's response to a foreign substance, but his cat may have an autoimmune disorder of some kind. That could possibly be described as being allergic to oneself.
