Bo-Bitty

I found him a short time ago, May 19, 2011, he was crouched down in a ditch so I stopped the truck and approached him. I was leary at first but he was quite friendly. I saw that he was very thin so I drove to get him some food.

When I came back he was still there so I put the food down and proceeded on to work. When I came back in 4 hours he was no where to be found. I went back to work but I couldn't get him out of my mind. I went home and after supper I asked my daughter if she wanted to go look for him so we did.

The first pass by the spot I never saw him so I turned around and got out of the truck and there he came out from under a bush. I called him and he came. We took him to his delight, but we isolated from our other cat for fear of disease.

He seemed to eat but was very thin and weak and lethargic. We nursed him along and we thought we were making progress, and he started to look a little better. We took him to the vet on the 5th day for blood tests to be sure he could not pass anything on to my Frisco.

The vet discovered that he was anemic and was also a carrier of the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. We came to the conclusion that the little guy would be best put to sleep. Even though we only had him a few days it has been rough. I feel like I let him down. I told him he could have a forever home with us but I just could not put my beloved Frisco at risk.

Bo-Bitty is now buried out behind my house, he will be forever in my heart. Rest in peace Bitty.

I'm very sorry for your loss

I'm sorry to hear about Bo-Bitty, Rhonda. I know you promised him a forever home but no one can fault you for protecting Frisco. FIV is definitely not something to mess around with. You clearly did the right thing by isolating him from your cat and having him checked out by the vet. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that we can't save all the cats out there. You did a lot more for him than most people would even attempt.
