Indoor-outdoor cat stopped using litter box in favor of living room

by Sheena C.

We have a 5 or 6-year-old, spayed cat. She is an indoor-outdoor cat and has always used the litter box, but preferred to go outside. We do have a younger male cat and a dog.

We moved about 4 months ago, and since the move, she has refused to use the litter box. First, she was using the bathroom in one spot in the living room. I put the litter box there. She'd go right next to it.

I bought a second litter box, put one there, on the den, still went next to it. She only goes in the living room, never anywhere else. Now she's moved to anywhere in the living room not just one spot. What else can I do?

Confine her to a room for a while
by: Jim W.

You can confine her to one room and see if she uses the box in there. Once she's using the box regularly in that room, you can let her out. You might want to check with your vet also to make sure she doesn't have a medical condition. A move is highly stressful, and stress can lead to problems.
