Do vaccinations cure feline upper respiratory infections?

by Anonymous

I recently rescued a kitten and she seems to have an upper respiratory infection. I would like to know if she will need to go on antibiotics or if getting her vaccinated will be enough. Some vets in my area aren't very good, which is why I wanted to get input. Thank you!

She will need treatment

Since they're for prevention, vaccines are not cures, so the kitten may need treatment as well, regardless of the type of infection.

There are different causes for an upper respiratory infection. Vaccines work on illnesses caused by viruses. Antibiotics work on illnesses caused by bacteria.

Antibiotics will often be used as treatment anyway, because there can be secondary bacterial infections when your cat has a virus.

Note: I am not a veterinarian, so I suggest researching this yourself and checking what I say here against what your veterinarian says.
