Calico Callie's Cat Colony Care & Rescue, Inc.

My husband and I are Cat Lovers for many years, and we have always had at least 2 cats (sometimes more) sharing our home.

March 23, 2012 around 9:00 a.m. as Briscoe (Maine Coon), Charlene (Bombay), and I were just hanging out, we hear this crying meow (not the cry of hurt) the cry of Hey Look out here.

I walk outside and here is a beautiful calico kitten with the most amazing colors and and tail markings we had ever seen.

We took "Callie" to our vet, which figured she was @ 4 months old. The next couple weeks it became obvious Callie came to us expecting.

Callie had 4 beautiful girls, and I adopted 1 out. Our extended Feline Family keeps growing, as under the front porch of our neighbor's house seems to be the spot that 2 Mother cats give birth.

As soon as they start to try to walk, the moms move to our back yard in one of our storage sheds.

In our neighborhood (like most of the city) since the 5000 year flood in Cedar Rapids in May 2008, and irresponsible owners, there are cats/kittens that need to be fed, spayed, neutered, adopted (if possible) and need lots of TLC!

Since we had been caring for 16 cats not counting Briscoe and Charlene, we decided that our life and world will be doing all things possible for strays, abandoned and feral cats. Cats have brought so much to our lives, it is time to give back and help them.

I became acquainted with Iowa Humane Alliance (Cedar Rapids -- Callie, her 3 girls and 1 other female, Shadow were spayed and vaccinated there). They participate in the TNR program and they will be the spay/neuter/vaccine provider for us.

We just received our acknowledgement of Articles of Incorporation, from Iowa Secretary of State, filed and effective September 17, 2013 at 2:08 p.m.

We felt it only right to name the rescue after Calico Callie, the kitty from the alley. (A little thing my husband came up with for Callie 'cause her mom and siblings, you always saw them down the alley from our house.)
