POPCORN

POPCORN

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 16 yrs old and had just moved in with my mom in Missouri for the first time in my whole life. I was in a new state with a new family that I had never known really till then.

I started school at a new high school, 10th grade. I didn't know anyone here and I truly was alone. I had always had a cat considering I used to live in Kentucky on a farm for the most part with whole lots of cats.

I didn't have anyone but myself and a mom that I barely knew. I had been going to my school for a few months now and had made some friends, but I was still lonely.

I needed something, I just didn't know what! I had gotten a boyfriend at this time and he was great, but still I was alone.

One day after I had had a horrible day at school, my mom came home from work. It was about 4:30pm and I was sitting on the couch with my cousin and his pregnant wife crying my eyes out because it had been a bad day.

My mom looked at me with her arm behind her back and told me it would be okay and that she loved me. I just said okay and I love you too, like usual...

THEN she pulled her arm from her back and in her hand was this little white ball of fluff... I was sooo happy.

I still remember to this day the love I felt when I saw that little fluffy man of mine. Time went by and I was trying to think of a really good and special name to give him.

One night me and mom were eating this homemade caramel popcorn and my kitty came over to us and started eating it. After that, the name Popcorn stuck for him.

A little after that, we found out from our veterinarian that he wasn't only a very special white kitty, but he was also deaf.

Now I have had him for 9 wonderful years and he is my best friend. He licks my tears away when I cry, he cuddles up with me on a bad day, and he knows just how to look at me to melt my heart.

He has been there for me through so much heartache and tragedy in the last 9 years. I honestly don't know what I'd do without him.

My boyfriend that I had at the time, well, we later on got married and we have been together for the last 9 yrs as well. He loves Popcorn as much as I do.

He is the only man Popcorn has ever truly loved me being with. I also have a 3 yr old little girl and he is great with her too. He always watches over her and they have become best friends as well. I love my Popcorn <3

Thank you Jessica and Popcorn
by: Jan K.

Thank you for reading my Spooky's story and poem and adding your comment. I ejoyed reading your Popcorn's story, too! What a cutie! I think Popcorn has many more years to live with you and your good care.

I once had an all white kitty (female) with one brown eye and one blue eye. She was deaf also and I was told that deafness was more prevalent in female white cats.

When Spooky started getting very sick and I was told she might live only 2 more weeks, I cried and cried and we were both miserable. Then I decided that neither Spooky nor I wanted to spend her last 2 weeks of life being sad and crying.

So we cheered ourselves up with constant talking about the blessing she was for me, brushing, soothing and sorta playing. I truly believe Spooky lived the extra 9 months to prepare me for when she had to go.

It was my faith and belief that I'll see her again that got me through. As well as sites like this. My advice to you would be to celebrate each day you and Popcorn have together and take lots of pictures!
