Cat Memorial: Louis from Boise

by Matt
(Boise, Idaho, USA)

Louis was born sometime in August of 2011 behind his daddy's office. When he and his siblings were about 10 weeks old we trapped them using humane traps and brought them to their forever home.

Louis was this first kitten we brought home. He was very scared at first but when we brought his sisters Harmony and Tiger home they had a joyful reunion.

Before long our scared little boy became quite the little snuggler. He never let his daddy out of his sight.

He was growing up so fast and was quickly becoming a very handsome boy. He and his sisters played all day and all night.

They were the best of friends. Louis was so happy in his house.

Then, on 12/3/11 my wife and I brought him back in to the kitty doctor on a followup appointment regarding some breathing trouble he was having. We found out that our little boy had an enlarged heart and was in congestive heart failure.

The doctors did their best to help him and sent us home with some medicine for him. The doctor advised us that he would have at most 12 months to live.

Much to our dismay little Louis took a turn for the worse the following day and we had to take him to the vet that evening to have him put to sleep. Mommy and Daddy miss you buddy and we will meet you at the bridge.

Editor's note: Here are baby picture of the three cats.

Another year has past little man. A more gentle soul than yours I have never known. It's hard to believe it has been 9 years since you went to the other side. I bet you are having a great time with momma, Dad, and your Sis. We love you little buddy. Gone but never forgotten.

Hi Louis,
Another year has come and gone so quickly. It's hard to believe it has been 8 years since your passing. Much has changed in that time. The colony had grown to almost 30 cats! Then after we practiced TNR the numbers have shrunk to fewer than ten. This is bittersweet because the cycle of your families suffering has been broken but I remember each and every one of them. In the past year we have lost your Daddy, Little Allie, Whiskers, and Lucy. Until next year little man. Have fun with your Daddy. Tell him we miss him.

7 years ago tomorrow Little Louis left us for the Rainbow bridge. He was such a sweet little guy. This is really remarkable considering the harsh conditions he was born into. He made a powerful impact on my life. Rarely does a day go by that I don't think of him. I hope you, your sister, and your mommy are having fun at the rainbow bridge little man. You are gone but never forgotten.

Six years have come and past since my Little Louis went to the Rainbow Bridge. For me Louis was pure innocence. He never harmed a soul. He was so thankful to have a home, a warm bed, and good food. He was the sweetest little boy. I am so thankful to have the time with him that I did. You are gone but not forgotten little man.

It's hard to believe that 5 years have come and passed since my little boy went to the rainbow bridge. This morning his sister Harmony climbed up on my lap just as the she had done with her brother and sister when they were babies. I hope Louis and his sister Tiger are having the best time at the bridge. I'm sure their mama is lovingly watching over them just as she did when they were tiny kittens.

Update on Louis sisters
by: Louis the hero kitty

Louis sisters Harmony and Tiger have now both been spayed. This is a miracle in an of itself because a little over a year ago I was told that they could both pass away at any moment and that they would never be able to be spayed. They both now have normal sized hearts and Tiger doesn't even have a heart murmur anymore.

Louis achieved amazing things in his short life. He inspired his Daddy to care for the colony he was rescued from. He also saved his sisters lives. We miss you Louis!

1 year ago today my Louis went to the rainbow bridge. Much has happened since the day of his passing. We learned that his sisters had the same heart problem that we lost Louis to. After a desperate search for a treatment we found one that worked. Thanks to their brother his sisters are now beautiful adult princesses. We miss Louis very much and his sisters are very grateful for his sacrifice.

Thank you for the update

I'm sorry to hear that Harmony and Tiger have heart problems, Matt. It's good to know that the taurine is helping, though, and I hope they continue to improve. Thank you for being such good cat parents!

After Louis passed away in December, my wife and I took his sisters to be x-rayed to see if they had enlarged hearts like their brother. We received the devastating news that Tiger had a severely enlarged heart and Harmony had a slightly enlarged heart.

We started them on Taurine hoping that it might help them. Over this past week we had them re-x-rayed and found out the Tiger's heart was significantly smaller and Harmony's was smaller as well.

We are hoping that our little girls will live long and happy lives thanks to their brother. We miss you Louis!
