Cat Food Recommendation: Nutro Natural, Purina Pro Plan and Fancy Feast

We like Nutro Natural, Purina Pro Plan and Fancy Feast. We tried the Wellness brands, the Solid Gold, the Blues.


They still prefer dry Nutro Natural Chicken for Seniors, dry Purina Pro Plan Salmon and Fancy Feast. Per vet recommendation we look for food that leads with quality protein, without animal digest or bone meal.

The vet likes gluten free and grain free, but the cats like that Fancy Feast gravy. The true carnivores among them also get a little skinless chicken and turkey and tuna.

They like to drink the water that the tuna comes packed in and I found that to be an effective way to get water into my senior cat with kidney disease. He was able to live several years without prescription food, which he did not like, by eating wet food like Fancy Feast.

Thank you for your recommendation on the different cat foods that have worked for you. Thanks also for that tuna water tip. That's a great one, which I'm going to include in my upcoming article on feeding cats tuna -- a somewhat controversial subject.

Thanks to you for pointing out that Born Free article on the pet food industry. I've referenced it in other places myself, and just the other day I had a conversation with some shoppers in the grocery store about that very topic.
