What is wrong with my poor kitty?

by Alice
(Colorado)

My cat is a 12 year old male. The area under his left eye is severely swollen and he has been sneezing.

I just need to know what the problem could be, and whether or not he needs to see a vet.

My Thoughts:

I'm sorry to hear that your cat is sick, Alice. If he were my cat, I'd take him to the vet to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.

If a cat is repeatedly sneezing, that is often a sign of an upper respiratory infection (URI). These are often viral in nature, but can also be caused (or accompanied) by bacterial infections.

They're common in cats who have come from crowded conditions, like a shelter or boarding facility, but any cat can have one.

I would be concerned, however, about his swollen eye area, which may or may not be related. If you can visibly see swelling below his eye, that sounds quite severe to me.
