Male cat takes a long time to urinate?

My cat seems to be taking forever when going for a wee. Over the last couple of days I have noticed when my cat is going for a wee that he can be stooping as if going for up 5 minutes.

Editor's note: Anytime a cat, especially a male, appears to be straining, experiencing pain or discomfort, has failed attempts, or takes an extended time to urinate is cause for concern. This could indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI) or some other issue such as stones or crystals.

In male cats, urinary tract blockage can occur. This is a life threatening condition and needs immediate treatment by a veterinarian.

Please call your veterinarian and describe the situation.

Take him to the vet. It is the best choice for him if you LOVE him.

Get your boy in to see the vet.

Anything else I could add would just be wishful thinking, and delay getting him the treatment he needs. I've had kidney stones myself, and wouldn't wish those on anyone. Sooner he gets in and treated, the sooner you both will feel better.

Let us know what you find out!
