Cat no longer using litter box

by Alex V.
(Cypress)

My cat Oliver, who is 2.5 years old, has always used his litter box, loyally, and never have I ever had an issue or ever caught that he went outside of his litter box. We are in a new environment and we recently moved from an apartment to a house.

The thing is we have been here for 2 months and Ollie was still loyal with the cat box. No change in litter box or set up. Out of nowhere he is going to the bathroom outside of the litter box. Will not use it.

He will even go there first, look and then proceed to go somewhere else. Cleaned the area placed litter box where he has been going from what I can tell. Still refuses and is going other places.

Also there is no change in his litter. I am still using the same brand he has been with for a long while. I am at my wits end on figuring out a solution and know the smell is only going to get worse.

Any help and ideas would be appreciated. I don't know how much more my spouse can take.

Outside the litter box
by: Anonymous

Sounds like stress, or a bladder infection. Let a Vet check him or her out concerning this problem.
There is a plug-in/or spray product, called Feliway. It produces fenomes (sp) which calm cats down thus relieves their stress. It has worked for my cats in the past.
Best of luck to you.

Is there something stressing him out?
by: William

Is it possible there is something in the new home that is stressing him out? Try confining him to a room with a litter box in it for a time. See if he uses it then. Once he's retrained, return things to normal.
