What does it mean when your cat bows to you?

Tried to get a picture of him bowing but he lifted his head at the last second

My cat "Buddy" is a male cat, almost 2 years old. We rescued him when he was 10 months old. He will jump up on my desk, I will pet him and he will rub his whiskers against my hands and arm and purr. After a while of this, he will bow his head to me.

When I say 'bow' he bows low enough to show me the back of his neck and he just purrs with his eyes closed. He never lies down. He just sits like that and purrs long after I stop petting him.

Does anyone know what this behavior means?

P.S. I tried to get a picture of him doing it but he lifted his head up.

He wants his head scratched

Maybe he bowed his head in front of you and you scratched it, and he liked it.

He Loves You!!

I'm no expert, but it sounds to me like your cat loves you. The word "reverence" pops into my mind, as in he is displaying for you the utmost respect and admiration. He sounds like a sweet cat. Enjoy him and love him back!!!
