Tortured Cat Saved by Young Boy Arrives in Port Washington, NY Today!

ANIMAL LEAGUE AMERICA RESCUES 16 FELINES FROM THE OUTERBANKS SPCA INCLUDING JACKSON – WHO WAS ORIGINALLY SAVED BY YOUNG WENDELL OVERTON AFTER HE WITNESSED THE CAT BEING TORTURED BY SOME YOUNG BOYS (IN PHOTO)

16 adorable adoptable felines of all ages from the NC Outerbanks SPCA, including Jackson, originally rescued from his tormenters by young Wendell Overton will arrive in Port Washington, NY today.

Wendell Overton of Manteo, NC found three other boys between the ages of 5 and 13 torturing a stray cat earlier this month. They were throwing the cat in the air, running over him with their bicycles, and squirting an energy drink in his face, according to Wendell.

Showing great bravery and concern for the vulnerable creature, Wendell confronted the boys and took the cat home where he and his mother called the Outer Banks SPCA.

Now Jackson will await a new home at Animal League America thanks to the bravery of Wendell. After being medically and behaviorally evaluated, all the felines will begin to go up for adoption on Thursday, April 4th.

According to a WVEC news report, Wendell’s mom Julia said her son "was watching the cat for a few weeks and he said 'Mom, if I can get my hands on him, can I save him?'" not realizing he would later actually save the cat from a group of abusers.

If you're in the NY area and interested in adopting any of these cats, contact the North Shore Animal League America Adoption Headquarters at:

Good to know that there are still people who do care all about these poor animals too and displays love, care and affection, which portrays the true meaning of being humane. I do sincerely hope you would learn a thing or two from these acts.

Genuine Hero!

Thank you for standing up for a defenseless cat! We have an obligation to take care of all the creatures God has put on this earth. We must respect the earth and all of its inhabitants if we expect to survive as a species.

It is refreshing to see a young person with compassion for animals and the courage to stand up to those who choose to abuse them. Your parents should be proud of the job they have done installing these values in you. Keep up the good work!

This young man is a hero. The tormentors deserve to be punished. I wish we had more people willing to stand up for the defenseless whether the defenseless are two legged or otherwise.

Abusers need a lesson in compassion
by: Mary-Eileen

Thanks to Wendell, who seems to be an exception these days: someone who will go out of their way at risk to themselves to help animals. And what happens to the young boys? (I knew they wouldn't be girls)

Will they be disciplined? Everyone knows that this is how abusers start out: abusing animals, then moving on (up?) to people later on in life. I'm a L.I.er, but I can't adopt Jackson, sadly. Glad he's doing better.

What a wonderful, good-hearted young man to rescue a poor, defenseless cat! Those boys, ALL of them should be punished! I hate people who hurt the innocent whether human or child...

God Bless this Young Boy
by: YSTY

I agree there should be laws against the abuse of all animals. Thank God this young man saved this poor cat.

I was always told by my father, if someone mistreats or abuses an animal you can be sure they will abuse people as well. Animals also are great judges of character, if they do not like a particular person, you can be sure there is a very good reason.

Saved Jackson, tortured kitty

And such crap will at least slow down if we make it a felony in all states to abuse an animal.
