My cat is urinating on the couch

by Anonymous

My 1 year old cat sometimes pees on the couch. How can I stop that?

I tried everything. Clean clean litter boxes, 3 of them, and maybe once a day or once every 2 days he pees on the couch. I need help. Thank you.

My thoughts: I'm sorry to hear that your cat has a urination problem. As I've written about before, the cause of intermittent urination problems can be hard to pin down.

They can be caused by illnesses of various kinds, including those involving the bladder, the urinary tract, or the kidneys. If he were my cat, I'd start by asking myself if he might have an intermittent urinary tract problem.

The theory is, when it causes him discomfort, he goes on the couch instead of in the box.

These kinds of problems can also be a result of your cat's dislike of some aspect of the litter box or litter. Since you've got several boxes and you're keeping them squeaky clean, I think this is unlikely.

Another possibility is if there are multiple pets in the house, there might be some conflict going on.

I hope that helps and please let us know how it goes.

Cat Urinating on Couch
by: Anonymous

The cat might not like litter boxes. I have a cat that will not use a litter box. I went to the vet with him and he said some cats are like that and they really don't know why. I use plastic garbage bags with black and white newspaper on top of it. He will go on that. To get the odor off of your couch, use plain white vinegar, any brand will do. Please first test it on a part of the couch where no one will see it. If ok, use vinegar on the couch (not too much) and it will stop him/her peeing on the couch. The smell will disappear in time. I don't know your financial situation so here is a product that I personally have used myself (it is pricey). Planet Urine and it is very good and it hasn't ruined any carpets, clothes, etc. Just go onto the internet and type www.planeturine.com. Their kits start about $30 and up. I loved using them and still have a little left and need to purchase more. Let us know how you do!
