My Boyfriend's Cat Hides My Stuff

by Shantel
(Jacksonville, Fl. USA)

I was wondering if you could explain a rather perplexing behavior our youngest furbaby is displaying. Our oldest Gypsy is almost 12, Discordia is 4, and Luna the baby and newest addition (My fiance's cat) at best guess is about 6 months old. We think she was a month old when I brought her home.

I took the older two to the vet and was checking out when this couple came in with this rather pathetic looking kitten trying to give her to the vet clinic. Fortunately for us they tried to send them to the humane society. The only info we have on her history is that she was stuck on the roof of a home in construction for at least two days. She was so dehydrated when I brought her home she had diarrhea for days... I can say now she is healthy and thriving except for these habits of hers....

I first noticed it when I was sitting in my recliner reading... I watched her jump into my scrap booking bag and fish something out... When I yelled at her she ran and hid behind my chair. That's when I discovered her stash.

Bits and pieces of various crafting materials from all over the house, a book (still haven't figured that one out) some of my bandanas... but nothing of my fiances.

I'm wondering one why she's doing this, and two why my stuff? She's not my cat...She'll come to me if my fiance isn't home but most of the time she goes to him. Follows him the way my girls have always followed me.

Add to the fact she is also the bravest cat I've ever seen. She has no qualms about walking up to complete strangers for attention. The maintenance team for our complex has been quite surprised at how she will walk up and sit on their feet if they don't pay attention to her immediately... (She also recently took a flying leap at a one of them from a wing chair when he didn't notice her).

I don't get any of it. Neither of my girls does this and I've never seen either behavior in any other cat I've owned since childhood.

Editors note: If anyone has any input on this interesting cat behavior, please post a comment! Thanks!
