Cat urinating on our bedding and wife's clothing

Our 7 year old female is just urinating on our bedding and my wife's clothes if left on the edge of the bed.

She does go to the litter box for her main duties, it's just urinating that's the problem. We do have 2 other house cats with no issues, 1 older male, 1 younger female.

Our cats do not go outside. I have 3 litter boxes. I've been using the same litter for several years.

My thoughts: I'm sorry to hear that your cat is having this problem. You didn't mention whether or not she has recently been to the vet with this problem in mind.

I would suspect a health issue, such as a urinary tract problem of some kind (inflammation, infection, crystals, etc.). This is often the case when a cat uses the box otherwise.

I would suggest placing a call to your vet to tackle this specific problem.

If your vet finds no medical problem, I would consider what changes may have occured in the house or in her life just prior to this problem starting.

I would also do whatever I could to reduce her stress level and make life as easy as possible for her.

I hope that helps and please keep us informed on her progress.

-Kurt

Introductions are critical
by: Kurt (Admin)

@Lora W.-

I'm sorry to hear that your cats are having problems. I would start with asking what the introduction process was like?

I ask that because how a cat is introduced to other cats can set the tone for the relationship. If the cats are introduced too quickly, it can cause problems, even if it takes 4 months for things to come to a head.

Assuming everyone is healthy, separation and slow reintroduction, with the usual scent swapping, same mealtimes, and so on, might help heal the relationship between the cats.

Here is a post where someone did it the wrong way, along with my suggestions for introducing a new cat to the home.

cat urinating
by: Lora W.

We have similar problems. We have 4 cats (2 male and 2 female). They are all rescues. The latest we adopted was 4 months ago. She is about 1 year old and spayed. The two male cats have made their peace with her. The older female (7+ years) has never liked the new one. Recently Suzanne (older) has begun urinating and defecating on my brother's bed.She has always been very possessive of him. They (2 females) are at odds with each other all the time now. Why, after 4 months, is the urinating, etc. occurring? We are at our wit's end. By the way, there are no medical problems with either of them. Please help with this!

Our cat started doing the same thing but only after my wife shouted at it to stop doing whatever it shouldn't have been doing. The rest of the time there were no problems. Check the wife not the cat!!!
